Active Lime

Our Quicklime is produced by burning Limestone at high temperature, in process called Calcination.  Limestone CaCO3 is a sedimentary rock composed of calcite and aragonite minerals, which are two different variants of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The main source of calcite is marine organisms. These organisms secrete a shell that comes out into the water and deposits on the ocean floor as pelagic ooze. Secondary calcite can also be deposited by supersaturated meteoric water (groundwater that deposits material in caves). This creates speleothems such as stalagmites and stalactites. A further form is formed from Oolite (Oolithic Limestone) and can be recognized by its granular appearance. Limestone makes up 10% of all sedimentary rock volume.
